self-care sanctuaries

This collaborative, healing-centered initiative creates self-care sanctuaries designed exclusively for Women of Color. In partnership with aligned organizations and Women of Color community practitioners, each sanctuary offers a restorative and nourishing experience.  Hosting Self-Care Sanctuaries for Women of Color isn’t just a wellness trend—it’s a revolutionary and necessary response to the realities of living in a world shaped by racism, patriarchy, capitalism, and chronic overextension.

As diverse people we follow multiple faiths and paths, drawing from both contemporary and traditional ways of knowing and healing. We use a variety of tools to facilitate our holistic health that are reflected in the self-care sanctuary. The offerings that the practitioners generously share to create these respites include: massage therapy, Reiki/Chakra/energy healing, crystal healing, life coaching, nutrition, spa services, tarot, midwifery and doula services, yoga and fitness, art therapy, mental health services, sleep/rest therapy, herbalism, and other offerings.

Here’s why these sacred spaces matter deeply:

Systemic Stress Requires Systemic Healing

Women of Color—especially Black, Indigenous, Latina, and Asian women—often carry:

  • Intergenerational trauma

  • Workplace bias and emotional labor

  • Community caregiving roles without institutional support

  • Constant racialized and gendered surveillance

A sanctuary offers space to exhale, to process what’s been internalized, and to be held without needing to explain or perform.

Self-care for Women of Color is survival work.

Rest and self-care are resistence- and joy, pleasure, and creativity are political. Knowing that these spaces do not usually exist within institutions and systems, creating a platform for community medicine is both essential and transformative.
